TIDAL is now possible to have as an integral part of Linn DS players. A small step for Linn - a giant leap for music.
We reported earlier this fall that WIMP HiFi was launched in England and the United States under the name TIDAL. In the meantime obviously TIDAL have worked energetically on different fronts. There are several HiFi manufacturers with streamers in the assortment that reports that TIDAL now available as an integrated solution.
There are some weeks ago this news became known for Linn`s concern. It looked at first like it was only at "TIDAL territory" this would be possible, and Norway it is known to still be under WiMP brand name. But now TIDAL is also available in Norway on the Linn DS players. In practice this happens via a SW upgrade of the current DS-streamer and also by Linn its relatively new interface Kazoo.
This opportunity is in this game available in the countries Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Canada, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Hungary and Austria. And TIDAL offer 60 day trial of streaming service for users of Linn DS.
We are not familiar with if this means that WiMP and HiFi will eventually merge when it comes to subscription. But we see a possible dilemma for subscribers who have both a streamer with integrated solution for TIDAL while this subscription is not available on a general basis in the same countries - as in Norway - and we therefore also need a WIMP HiFi subscription to their other platforms. We feel confident that WIMP / TIDAL will find a reasonable solution to this issue.
