Arcam is very high on the track with AVR750

Written by

The Cambridge-based traditional hifi manufacturer claims that the AVR 750 is the best stereo amplifier they have ever produced. And this is a surround receiver!

Arcam have for many years been a manufacturer that has been dedicated to the combination stereo / home-cinema. It started in the 90's by being one of the first manufacturers of stereo amplifiers that included a processor input / unity gain on their amps in the Alpha series. Then came the addition board the flagship Alpha 9 with surround capabilities,  followed by P30 preamplifier with analog 5.1-input board.

Eventually, they also began to produce surroundreceivers, a grip few other moderately sized stereo manufacturers have taken a chance on.

The choice they make now is perhaps the boldest they have ever done. By claiming that surroundreceivere AVR 750 is the best stereo amplifier they ever produced, they acquire reasonably large drop, both real and in terms of being HiFi politically correct. We all know the attitudes prevailing in our audiophile church, most recently illustrated in an article in Fidelity in early summer followed by noise at Hifi Central.

In return, it does not appear that Arcam has committed any stunt on the equipment side of this supposed audiophile surroundreceiver. Here we find safe features which have already been in place on the market a few years. The only reason for a cautious, discreet elevation of the left eyebrow is omitting analog multichannel input. This is an obvious trend of the time, but maybe not in this segment?

Rated power of two channels in operation, respectively 120w and 200w at 8 and 4 ohms. Illustrates a solid strømforyning, which further confirmed by a given performance 100W/180W pr.kanal with operations in 7 channels. But then albeit only at 1kHz, not in 20-20.000Hz as stereo specification.
