There is not really many Braking news in this series. It is interesting to notice that Sony continues the somewhat bold choice completely dropping the analog outputs. It has for a longer period been a general trend that even prestigious models of universal players have skipped analog 5.1/7.1-outputs. Now it appears that this trend also is extended to skip stereo outputs. No doubt that this reduce the flexibility of players. On the other hand, it is becoming more and more frequent that digital inputs and DACs are included also in stereo amplifiers.

A very positive trend is that support for SACD are finding its place in an increasing number of models. All four newcomers from Sony support DSD via HDMI, making sure they fall within our definition of Universal player. They also all include an optional conversion from DSD to PCM - useful if the recipient is not DSD compatible. Sony was the mother of SACD, together with Philips, and it's nice to see that SACD support in Sony is also on full return on mainstream products, after a rather lackluster period a few years ago.

Top model Sony BDP-S6200 has otherwise upconverting to 4K. An interesting grip, since trends indicate that 4K can be effected both in industry and in the market.
