Most classic works have a wide variety of recordings, and some get even more than one recordings on the same label. In these cases there are often special approaches to the music, and the approach the two upcoming releases from Linn Records have in common is that they have a special historical approach.

We start with Mozart's Requiem, recorded earlier on Linn Records. For more than 10 years ago there was an edition based on Robert Levin's preparation which was recorded by the late Sir Charles Mackerras, who conducted the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. , we wrote a review of this recording in 2003.

This time Dunendin Consort directed by John Butt has recorded Mozart's Requiem. Dunedin Consort is a Scottish Baroque orchestra that has a number of previous releases on Linn Records. In this recording of the Requiem they had a desire to perform this work as they think it might have been performed for the first time after Sussmayr completed this composition after Mozart`s death. David Black has just published a kind of reconstruction of the notes as they were originally completed by Mozart's pupil Sussmayr, where it also is stated clearly what was composed by Mozart, and what was completed by Sussmayr. In addition, all changes that have subsequently been carried out by others as improvements over Sussmayr`s completions have been removed.

Dunedin Consort - Mozart Requiem has release date 30/03/2014. Read more at Dunedin Consort .

The second upcoming release at Linn Records is Bruckner's 2nd symphony, performed by the Royal Academy of Music Soloists Ensemble, conducted by Trevor Pinnock. This is their second release in partnership with Linn Records, after they published Mahler 4 symphony summer 2013. You can read our review of the Mahler release here .

Like the recording of Mahler's 4th this is also one reorkestrering for chamber orchestra, in the same spirit as that which occurred in Schoenberg`s Verein für musikalische Privataufführungen. But this time they have commissioned work by composer Anthony Payne.

Also this release release date 31 March. More information at Linn Records.
