In autumn we made a couple of articles about Linn's innovation Exakt. Both a leading news story , follow-up of a hollow article about this innovative concept. The core of the whole concept is really a signal path where the signal goes digital to crossovers, whether sitting at a power amp integrated in the speakers, or an external amplifier. Or in a so-called Tunebox. The advantage of digital active crossovers are that distortion of crossovers can be kept at a minimal level, and that one can make other DSP processes associated with crossovers.

In the introduction it was Klimax level that benefited from this Exakt Opportunity. The price tag is thus at a high level. Now when it is Akurate's turn, it all starts to be a bit more on the price level where some enthusiasts are accustomed to having to spend for a complete setup in real HighEnd level. The whole thing is built around a set of Akubarik speakers as in the main variety has complete 6 channel power modules with digital crossovers built with digital signal supplied via the proprietary protocol Exakt Link from an Akurate Exakt DSM.

Kontrapunkt reports that the price for a set of Akurate Exakt is 250.000, - NOK.

Linn Adds Exakt Lossless Technology to Akurate Speaker Line

Linn has extended its ground-breaking Exakt platform into its Akurate range. The highly acclaimed Akubarik loudspeaker is the latest product to benefit from this new technology, which represents a new era of personalization in customers’ homes.

Exakt eliminates the sources of loss inherent in the traditional analog hi-fi chain by transferring the lossless digital signal all the way to the speaker. This means that a Studio Master file, or any other music source, is now transmitted more accurately into the speaker.

Exakt delivers the most direct connection ever made between the listener and the artist, and turns the speaker into a intelligent, connected, software upgradeable product.

Using the groundbreaking Exakt technology launched in Linn’s flagship Klimax Exakt System in September last year, the Akurate Exakt System comprises an Akurate Exakt DSM and Exakt Akubarik loudspeakers.

Inside Exakt loudspeakers is a digital platform that enables a whole new range of performance-enhancing capabilities and the ability for a Linn Specialist to optimize the system to the customer’s home. This ensures the best possible sound no matter the unique characteristics of the customer’s room or their preferred speaker positioning.

Exakt eliminates magnitude and phase distortion that is inherent in traditional passive crossovers.

All speaker drive units have their own unique characteristics. Exakt measures and corrects for the tiniest variation between drive units, meaning every system that leaves the factory performs exactly to the designers specification.

Exakt enables the Linn specialist to optimize performance for any customer’s unique room. This personalization is based on the room’s dimensions, furnishings, and the customer’s preferred speaker location. Now you can enjoy the best possible sound no matter your room’s size, furnishings, and speaker placement.

In order to deliver the digital signal losslessly to the speaker, Linn developed a new protocol—Exakt Link. Exakt Link achieves accuracy of data transmission with the ability to losslessly transmit eight channels of 24-bit 192 kHz Studio Master; low jitter to ensure musical timing; and precise synchronization between speakers.

Up to thirteen sources can be connected to the system via the Akurate Exakt DSM with inputs including HDMI, Toslink, S/PDIF, XLR, and RCA phono available.

New ADC technology converts the delicate analog signal of vinyl digitally and sends it losslessly to the speaker.

The remaining specification of Exakt Akubarik retains the exceptional acoustic and mechanical qualities of the original Aktiv product including the two 80-inch glass fiber composite cones mounted face-to-face in the isobaric system on the underside of the enclosure. By doubling the driving force, the moving mass and the stiffness of the suspension (i.e. two cones, two motors and two voice coils), Exakt Akubarik delivers the rich, deep and detailed bass extension normally reserved for much larger speakers, and all from a relatively slim, stylish, and compact cabinet.

All of the other drivers of the Exakt Akubarik are mounted on the front baffle including Linn’s 3K driver array technology featuring a polyurethane 3-inch mid-range dome, 1-inch dome tweeter and a 0.5-inch silk super-tweeter, each placed in a rigid, machined die cast aluminum chassis for optimum positioning to achieve wider dispersion, precise high frequency response, and single-point source accuracy.

Upper bass is handled by a 6-inch doped paper driver mounted in its own sealed enclosure designed to deliver better transients with less distortion.

The six-channel amp module houses the Exakt capability alongside Akurate quality DACs and Linn’s patented Chakra ‘silent power’ amplification, all mounted within a special and effective passive cooling chimney, which draws the warm air up and out of the electronics without requiring a fan.

Exakt Akubarik’s gently curved cabinet is a composite construction of steam molded, layers of wood veneer, and MDF. Additional meticulously placed internal bracing creates an exceptionally rigid and acoustically inert structure and a very stable mounting for the drive units.

Finished by hand, Exakt Akubarik is available in a range of finishes, including six high-grade real wood veneers in standard or high gloss options. A range of 200 bespoke, high gloss color finishes are also available. Exakt Akubarik can be further personalized through the choice of polished chrome or black finishes for the chassis of the 3K array.

Available to audition from late April at Linn Specialists nationwide, the Akurate Exakt System will be priced at $41,000 US Retail. Upgrade options are also available for existing Akubarik owners.
