Denon AVR-X7200W - the new flagship receiver from Denon

Written by

Denon announces their new flagship receiver AVR-X7200. This then becomes the latest addition to the bouquet with AV receivers from Denon that has Dolby Atmos. Moreover, it has a small trump up it`s sleeve.

We have seen the outlines of the flagship receiver AVR-X7200W since this summer. But Denon has been reticent with detailed information on their web pages until launch.

Now AVR-X7200W is launched, and very much of properties are recognizable from what until now has been the top model in this year's model collection. And we get  an impression that it's more about quality than quantity that separates the two models. That said, it is also important to add that already AVR-X5200W had very ambitious specifications and equipment list.

The power increase from the AVR-X5200W is modest 10W per channel from 140 W to 150 watts RMS into two channels. A weight gain of 14.2 kg to 17.8 kg indicates that there may be a more powerful power supply flagship model?

Inputs and outputs are not very different in the two models. The number of component video inputs being increased from 2 to 3, holds most academic interest. However, we place greater emphasis on the flagship model has been given a set of the dying breed analog 7.1 input. And it is a very appropriate choice, in our view.

Denon's renowned and distinctive AL-processing have here a more elevated version AL24 on the AVR-5200W is replaced by AL32 on the top model, in other words, a 32-bit edition. Also new is that it is a multi-channel version of this processing.

Both models have a 11.1-processor, and thus has potential for Dolby Atmos up to 7.1.4 or 9.1.2, but it requires a two-channel power amplifier as well, since there are 9 amp-channels on board. With the receiver's own forces are Atmos setup limited to 5.1.4 or 7.1.2.

But there is an even more exotic potential of 3D sound present here. We reported a few weeks ago that the AVR-X4100 and AVR-X5200W would get an update of FW that allows Auro-3D. This applies also for the flagship AVR-X7200W. The update is announced to be available in December 2014, will receive a fee to cover the royality to Auro Technologies.
