When we announced the new headphone amplifier and lommeDACen HA-2 about a week ago, we mentioned that they have a new headset again. Oppo PM-3 builds on the same principle as the two top models PM-1 and PM-2. These have gotten parts of the HiFi world to take up most of superlatives, including those of our own reviewers who have had the pleasure to listen to them.
Unfortunately is simultaneously both PM-1 and the slightly more affordable PM-2 at such a high price point that it is probably only the most hardcore HeadFi-oriented audiophiles who prioritize purchases. Therefore, it is particularly interesting when OPPO now launching a "budget" variation of the same design concept.
Oppo PM-3 builds on the same planar magnetic concept in the driver sitting in the flagship model PM-1. It is a very thin and light diaphragm driven by a push-pull principle. Oppo claims this makes the membrane generate very stable and linear piston-like vibrations, ensures phase coherence and high resolution performance with minimal distortion. PM-3 has a closed side, with its driver at 55mm.
