Written by

Simaudio launches a new compact headphone amplifier. MOON Neo 230HAD is simultaneously a complete DAC and preamplifier.

Simaudio have been reportedly active in launching various DACs the last six months. In January we reported on the new MOON Neo 280D , while as recently as May we announced that they launched a new reference DAC - MOON Evolution 780D .

This time it's the ultra-compact model MOON Neo 230HAD being launched. Or Half Moon as Janis Joplin would have called it, as the width is less than half the normal size for HiFi components.

DAC

Nevertheless, there is very much functionality in this new device from Simaudio. It is based on big brother 430HA, and has a built-in DAC that is compatible with 32bits PCM, but also DSD256. The DAC is fully asynchronous, and has two coax- and an optical digital input, plus an USB input.

Preamplifier.

At the rear panel there is an analog RCA input. In addition, there are analog minijack input on the front panel.

In addition to regular pre-out, there is also a set of fixed-gain outputs.

Headphone Amplifier.

In addition to the aforementioned analog outputs you also a front headphone jack socket. It may deliver the power of 100mW / 200mW / 1W respectively at 600/300/50 ohms.

The manufacturer emphasizes that the most important aspect of MOON Neo 230HAD more is very good performance at a moderate price, than all the functionality that is packaged into the product.

MOON is imported to Norway by Oslo Hi-Fi Center .
