Oppo BDT 101CI - new player from the Blu-ray experts

Oppo is launching a new Blu-ray player. This new player differs fundamentally from the two larger models on a few Points.

When Oppo launches a new product leads automatically to us straitghtening Our back slightly, in combination with trying to find the most honed glasses. Oppo has for a long period been king of the hill within playback of Blu-ray discs, a kind of benchmark that competitors must accept to be measured against. The Flagship model BDP-105, but also to some degree the smaller brother BDP-103 has image characteristics that are challenging to match. But also audio properties have received many superlatives. Applies not least for the BDP-105 that Arve reviewed back in 2014 .

But this time it's really a completely new model. And already in the name, we read 2-3 of the charavteristics of this newcomer. "BDT" indicates that this is a Blu-ray transport. Normally, this means that there is no analog audio outputs at all, but Oppo has obviously found no reason to extend this term. In the basic Version it has an analog stereo output, but With the option that this may be extended to an analogue 5.1 or 7.1 output. We are talking, in other words of a modular structure, a grip we find in other areas of this Product. More about that later.

The model number 101 tells us that this is the New kid brother in the series. And prices in the US may indicate that we find this player a solid step below the BDP-103. This is also underlined bu the fact that this model does not have the same support for web based streaming services as the larger models. If this status as a kid brother also means that the sound quality is somewhat reduced compared to the BDP-103,  remains to be heard.

The suffix "CI" indicates that this is a product tuned into Custom Install. Now this does not mean that it isn`t also suitable as a household player in a normal setting, but it's added up to several features that are specifically aimed at CI. Preparing for rack mounting is one of those properties. And in addition to the aforementioned 5.1 / 7.1 module, it is also an available module for multiple HDMI outputs. In the product specifications below you can read about several CI-tuned properties. As a consequence of this CI tuning, Oppo BDT-101CI will not be available in Oppo's Webshop, but must be purchased through authorized resellers or CI installers.
