AP-505 - New power amplifier from TEAC Featured
Written by Karl Erik SyltheTeac launch a new compact power amplifier. The AP-505 is the name of this flexible power amplifier in Teac's Reference series.
Teac is well known for producing high-quality HiFi Devices in a compact housing. The 505-series is the top-line in this category, and so far we have the integrated amplifier AX-505, the USB-DAC / network player NT-505 and not least the DU-505 - a USB-DAC / headphone amplifier.
The power amplifier AP-505 is now being launched. It has amplifier modules from Hypex that are tweaked according to specifications from Teac's development team.
Flexibility
The amplifier has an unusual flexibility in that it can be configured in three different modes. It is not uncommon to be able to switch between stereo and bridged monoblock, but also having the possibility to set it up in biampling mode is more unique. In this case the signal logistics are routed so that a stereo amplifier plays the same signal in both channels, with the input signal being input from either the right or the left channel. This would then be suitable for vertical bamping, where one channel in a stereo amplifier serves the lowest frequencies, and the other one serves the higher frequencies in the same speaker.
Basically, this is a 2x115 watt stereo amplifier in 4 ohms, while in BTL mode (bridged) it outputs 220 watts in 8 ohms.
The compact front is adorned with a pair of VU gauges, which provide a robust retro identity to Teac AP-505.
