M33 - new flagship amplifier from NAD Featured

Written by

NAD launch new flagship amplifier. The M33 takes over the baton after the M32, and can do whatever you wish

A year ago, NAD launched a new integrated amplifier that has attracted quite a bit of attention. The M10 is a compact amplifier that is really a lot more than an amplifier. DAC and streamer are additional skills that make it a complete stereo system where you just need to add speakers.

And now this concept is being continued in the new flagship amplifier M33. This replaces the predecessor M32, which was introduced in 2016. But the predecessor was a more ordinary stereo amplifier, even though it had built-in DACs. And then it must be admitted  that M32 could also eventually be supplemented with a BluOS module, thanks to NAD's MDC concept. More on that later.

PURIFI self-clock

We start with what is perhaps the most important news with the NAD M33. For NAD has entered into a collaboration with the Danish manufacturer PURIFI, a company based in Roskilde, which was started in 2014 by veteran Peter Lyngdorf, in addition to Bruno Putzeys and Lars Risbo.

PURIFI has developed an amplifier concept which they call Eigentakt, which means self-clocking. It is based on Class-D technology, but PURIFI claims that the Proprietary technology is unique and should make the amplifiers unaffected by impedance, volume level and signal content, resulting in negligible levels for THD and IMD.

The NAD M33 is the first integrated product to receive Eigenentakt amplifier modules, and the amplifier delivers 2x200 watts in 4 or 8 ohms.

Digital department

The M33 has DACs from ESS Saber, and has a total of 6 digital inputs. In addition, it supports both AirPlay 3 and aptX.

BluOS takes care of the streaming department and ensures multi-room compatibility. The system also provides access to streaming in HighRes, and also supports MQAA.

Two subwoofer outputs have adjustable digital crossovers.

Dirac Live Room Correction

NAD has an extensive collaboration with Swedish Dirac, which is one of the most interesting suppliers of space correction at present. This has been implemented on both selected AV products and stereo amplifiers. Using the included measuring microphone, 5 different setups can be stored, allowing for different sweets spots and acoustic conditions, such as curtained or open curtains.

MDC

MDC stands for Modular Design Construction, a concept NAD introduced more than 10 years ago. It provides the flexibility and opportunity for future upgrades to new technology.

The M33 has two slots for future modules for hardware upgrades.

TFT

Finally, we cannot help but mention the dominant TFT display. This was one of the factors that made the M10 so intriguing, not least because of the ability to put it in a wattmeter mode. We hope that this opportunity is included in the flagship.
