Stellar M1200 Power Amplifier - new monoblocks from PS Audio Featured
Written by Karl Erik SylthePS Audio launch new monoblocks that take over the lead position in the Stellar series. The manufacturer also has the monoblocks M700.
PS Audio is really active with the slimline series Stellar currently. After launching the Stellar Phono Preamplifier a few months ago, and the all-in-one Stellar Strata box that we wrote about a few days ago, they now come with a New pair of monoblocks.
Stellar M1200 Power Amplifier
The Stellar M1200 is not the first monoblock in the Stellar series for PS Audio. In addition to the Stellar S300 stereo power amplifier, the Stellar M700 monoblocks were launched a couple of years ago. And the new Stellar M1200 has some similarities to the smaller M700, but there are still some serious differences.
When chief engineer Darren Myers was to create new flagship power amplifiers in this series, he had aspirations that they would both preserve tiny nuances in the signal while being able to operate the most demanding speakers without compression. This is attempted with two grips.

Class-D
The amplifier is a Class-D design, and PS Audio has picked up amplifier modules from ICE, specifically ICEedge. Modules from ICE were also used on the M700, and this was based on the fact that these should have a sound characteristic that matches PS Audio's GainCell. You can read more about ICEedge here .

Valve in the input stage
On the Stellar M1200, there is a Zero-feedback class A tube-based input stage. The tubes used are 12AU7 , and PS Audio believes that this input stage is crucial to the dynamics of the amplifier.
Power
The Stellar M1200 has a stated power of 600 watts in 8 ohms, and this doubles to 1200 watts in 4 ohms. These are values at 1kHz, with 1% THD. Damping factor is stated at 1100% in 8 ohms, and 550% in 4 ohms.
The amplifier is fully balanced and has both RCA and XLR inputs. Copper dual speaker terminals are nickel plated.
Recommended price for PS Audio Stellar M1200 is NOK. 79.900, -
PS Audio is imported to Norway by Mala Audio
