RECORD NEWS: Four new SACDs from Chandos in the horizon.

The record company Chandos has four new releases on SACDs on the horizon. They are all multi-channel records.

Kurt Atterberg was a Swedish composer who lived from 1887 to 1974. Chandos released a SACD with among others two symphonies, recorded with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.

Now they release a new SACD called Atterberg: Orchestral Works 2. This time Neeme Järvi conducts the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, and the repertoire is Symphony no. 2 and no. 8.

Symphony no. 2 was composed in 1911 and initially had only two movements. After massive criticism Atterberg supplemented a third movement. Symphony no.8 was composed in 1944 and premiered in 1945.

Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra is playing on the second SACD from Chandos. There are many of Sibelius` most famous works, apart from symphonies to fill this release, with Sir Andrew Davis conducting.

The works on Sibelius: Violin Concerto is Violin Concerto in D-minor, Finlandia, Karelia Suite, Lemminkainen Suite, Valse Lyrique, Valse Triste and Festive Andante.

Mendelssohn in Birmigham is recorded precisely in Birmingham by CBSO, with Edward Gardner as a guest conductor. Mendelssohn had a special relationship with Birmingham.

The works on Mendelssohn in Birmigham are Hebrides Overture, Symphony no. 5 in D-major – “Reformation” and Symphony no. 4 in A-Major - "Italian".

Joachim Raff lived from 1822 to 1882, and about ten years before he died he wrote Symphony No. 5. This symphony is his main work in this release, which is recorded by the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, with Bogdan Zvoristeanu as concertmaster. Neeme Jarvi is the conductor, even for the five Overtoures, prelude and Abends included in the release.
