Pioneer U-05 - new USB DAC and Headphone Amplifier.

Written by

Pioneer introduces a HighEnd USB DAC. It can also serve as a headphone amplifier and digital preamplifier.

Pioneer U-05 has two coaxial inputs and two optical. In addition, we find a digital XLR input. USB-PCM takes up 32bits/384kHz, while the other inputs may take PCM up to 24bits/192kHz. USB input also takes DSD 2.8 / 5.6 MHz.

That Pioneer is really serious about U-05 is obvious, with a weight of 6.3 kg and DA converters that is able to decode the signal with up to 32bits and 384 kHz. Or 2.8 and 5.6 MHz DSD files. Pioneer has also equipped U-05 with three selectable filters for PCM and three for DSD, to fine-tune the sound to your taste. Or if you prefere, you may defeat filters completely.

It is possible to switch between the variable and the fixed output, and this makes U-05 suitable as a preamplifier, albeit limited to digital sources. It also selectable gain for the balanced headphone outputs.

Pioneer U-05 will be available in September.
