Azur 851N - new flagship streamer from Cambridge Audio

Written by

Cambridge Audio launch a new streamer that tops the series of network streamers from this manufacturer. Azur 851 becomes the sixth model in the flagship series of Cambridge Audio.

A few weeks ago we presented the Cambridge Audio's new CX Series, which contains 6 new products. Today there it is the Azur 851 series which is being extended to 6 units, as the new flagship streamer Cambridge Audio Azur 851N enters the arena. This streamer is a very complete machine. It is both DAC, streamer and digital preamplifier in one.

We start with the DAC, where DA chip unlike the new streamer in the CX series are taken from Analog Devices. Dual AD1955 running in Dual differential mode, while the Cambridge CXN has double WM8741 from Wilson. It has a separate asynchronous USB input, in addition to three standard USB inputs for connecting USB HD and other storage media.

There are otherwise two optical and two RCA digital inputs. In addition, we find an AES / EBU. Azur 851N can accept files with resolution of up to 24bit / 192kHz. These are upsampled to 24bit / 384kHz before being sent to DAC.

Streaming can happen both wired and via WiFi. It is also prepared to connect to an external Bluetooth adapter. In addition Azur 851N compatible with both Airplay and Spotify Connect. And streamer can be controlled via Cambridge Connect App on iOS or Android devices.

Of analog outputs, you can choose between using RCA or balanced connection. Azur 851N can optionally be used as a complete preamplifier, since it has both digital volume control and balance control.

The real icing on the cake is the 4.3 "screen on the front, which makes it possible to eg see cover art on it being played.
