Naim with Spotify Connect

Spotify Connect was launched last fall and is an innovation that allows a stream retrieves the music directly from the Internet without being dependent on stream via a PC / Mac, tablet or mobile phone. With Spotify Connect To PC / tablet / mobile only act as a sort of remote control that selects the music and make a playlist streamer. Quite liked the concept of UPnP.

 

We have written about Spotify Connect here and tried it out in practice in our test table radio Argon iNet2 + . The main advantage of Spotify Connect is that you do not occupy such. cell phone throughout the play, and is not dependent on the bandwidth limitations that may be greater between mobile and streams / network routes than between streams and routes. It occupies nor battery capacity in mobile / tablet.

There are already some manufacturers have implemented Spotify Connect in their products, and now therefore come for Naim, who has been quite aggressive in streaming on a variety of products. Naim report that Spotify Connect will be available in May, after a period of beta testing. Connect may be installed in any streaming products via a software upgrade. The Spotify subscription, however the user keep up with himself - here as in all other manufacturers.

Salisbury, 18th February 2014. Naim confirmed today that it will be adding Spotify Connect to all of its digital music players as of May 2014. To add this exciting and highly requested feature will entail a simple firmware upgrade to the Naim product.

Spotify Connect allows Naim owners with a Spotify premium subscription to effortlessly control music selection and play from their iPod, iPhone, iPad or Android device. Once the new firmware is installed, set up is as easy as opening the latest Spotify app, pressing play and then selecting the Naim player via the Spotify Connect logo on the playback bar. The Naim player then takes its stream directly from Spotify’s local servers, helping to preserve battery life of the portable device. Maximum convenience, minimum hassle.

The firmware update will be available from Naim’s website in May when their extensive testing procedures will be complete. This update is only suitable for Naim’s 24bit/192kHz capable players. Owners of older players will be able to upgrade to high-resolution through their Naim retailer.

Naim’s Managing Director Paul Stephenson commented “It will now be even easier to discover and enjoy a world of music through your Naim system: Spotify and Internet Radio combined offer an almost limitless capacity to discover new music.”
