PENTATONE Awards Pianist Nareh Arghamanyan Artist of the Season

Baarn, 29 August 2014
- Nareh Arghamanyan has been chosen as PENTATONE’s Artist of the Season for July to November 2014.  “Arghamanyan's playing is compulsive, emotional yet remarkably complete for such a young musician – sensitive, unaffected, genuine”, according to The Independent’s Jessica Duchen.

You might not yet put Lang Lang and Nareh Arghamanyan in the same league, but soon you might. With a list of performances with orchestras such as the Vienna Symphony, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Tonhalle Zurich, hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt, NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg, Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg and Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal, Vancouver and Utah Symphonies, this 25-year-old pianist is a true artist to be reckoned with.

Recognising true talent, PENTATONE has granted their Artist of the Season title to Ms. Arghamanyan. Over the course of the season, fans and critics will have the opportunity to follow her closely, to get a glimpse of Ms. Arghamanyan not only as a rising artist, but also as a person.

Armenian-born Nareh Arghamanyan started playing the piano from the age of five. Three years later she began her studies with Alexander Gurgenov at the Tchaikovsky Music School for Talented Children in Yerevan. In 2004 she was the youngest student to be admitted to the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where she studied with Heinz Medjimorec and chamber music still with Avedis Kouyoumdjan.

This brilliant pianist has worked with conductors including Alain Altinoglu, John Axelrod, James Gaffigan, Howard Griffiths, Carl St Clair, Sir Neville Marriner, Michael Sanderling, Kazuki Yamada, Xian Zhang and Jean-Marie Zeitouni. Ms. Arghamanyan has won an impressive number of awards, including 1st prize at the 2008 Montréal International Music Competition, 1st prize at the 2007 Piano Campus International Competition in Pontoise, the Wörthersee scholarship of the Kärntner Sparkasse and the 2005 Josef Dichler Piano Competition Vienna.

Nareh Arghamanyan is currently working on her third recording with PENTATONE. In collaboration with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin and conductor Alain Altinoglu, she has recorded the Khachaturian concerto together with Prokofiev’s piano concerto No. 3.

The CD will hit stores on 1 November 2014.
