In August we could opt for the new mid-range set in stereo from Marantz - PM6005 and CD6005 . Now Marantz launches a set of components that are a little higher on the ladder. And both the amplifier and the signal source has some surprises in store.

We start with the PM8005 integrated amplifier, an elegant-looking creature at 2x70 watts into 8 ohms. No blown away by the impact, but here's the Marantz in accordance with their own traditions. Marantz often focus on quality over quantity in their moderate-end amplifiers what power concerns. However, what breaks with previous Marantz traditions, is that this time they have chosen to include a processor input, or HT bypass as many call it. Marantz have chosen to call this feature "Power Amp Direct In". As far as we have been able to record, this is Marantz's first product with such a direct input, and it is already in place in our exclusive product database of amplifiers with processor input.

Addition 22/11/2014. We have subsequently by a reader become aware of that Marantz already had three integrated amplifiers with HT bypass. It is about Marantz PM-11S3, PM-14S1 and PM 15S2. These have now been placed in our product database for amplifiers with processor input.

The signal source SA8005 is as the name suggests also compatible with SACD. It is common for CD players released nowadays that they are equipped with digital inputs for use as pure DAC, and many also have a USB DAC. Marantz has taken this another step further, and integrated an asynchronous USB DAC, which in addition is able to stream DSD, both in single and double versions. As to a logical grip when such a DAC that is DSD compatible. But nevertheless an unusual grip Marantz should be applauded for.

We do not know the prices in Norway.
