The fledgling English manufacturer Mitchell and Johnson launches itself internationally at CES

At a time when many hi-fi manufacturers are struggling, it is especially nice when new ones appear. Mitchell and Johnson is one of the manufacturers that take off against the wind. Paul Mitchell and David Johnson started in 2011, are based in Feltham, west of London.

To be this young they already have a surprisingly wide range. In addition to a compact network receiver, there are three main series - respectively 100 series, 200 series and 800 series.

In the 100 series, we find so far only the integrated amplifier CSA-100, with 4 inputs and 2x40W. This is the base model, and also seems to be the youngest.

200 series is far more copious. We start with the integrated amplifier SAP-201V, which also has a built-in DAC from Wolfson Micro, the WM8761. We also find the network player WLD+201 LX here, which also has DAB and Spotify. DR-201V is a pure FM / DAB tuner, while CDD-201V is a pure CD player of the old school, without additional skills or digital inputs.

800 series is peak series with Mitchell and Johnson, and here we find the power amplifier A-812 with a slightly retro design characterized by dual VU-meters in front. This power amp can be naturally combined with the analog and digital preamplifier DAC-800V with its 3 analog and 5 digital inputs, plus a USB port. There is also a network-player in the series - NP-800V.

Mitchell and Johnson also had time to develop their own headset, and HP1 has an elegant look.

The price level in England is very moderate, and it is tempting to imagine that they fish in much of the same water as their countrymen in Cambridge Audio. There are currently no Norwegian distributors, but it would be interesting to become acquainted if the Vegas-release is bearing fruit.
