AV8802 - new flagship AV preamplifier from Marantz
Written by Karl Erik SyltheMarantz launch new top model AV preamplifier. The new model is called Marantz AV 8802.
This fall we wrote about the new AV preamplifier AV7702 from Marantz. It was one of the very first preamplifiers to support Dolby Atmos. Later it has also been announced that software updates will also make it compatible with the competing 3D audio format Auro-3D.
These characteristics are of course also apply for flagship model AV8802. It is also a 11.2 preamplifier, but 13.2 pre-out in the form of balanced- and RCA outputs. It also has a pair of stereo XLR inputs.
The equipment list is otherwise not so very different in AV7702 and AV8802. It more about AV8802 having a far more lavish workmanship, with among others 32bit / 192kHz DACs for all channels, and copper shielded enclosure.
Below we have compared the backplate of a AV7702 (top) with a AV8802 (below).
AV8802 is scheduled to be sent out in February. WE do not know prices in Norway yet, but prices respectively in USA, Europe and England is suggested to 3999 USD / 3799 Euro / 2999 UKP.
