CP-1050 - Onkyo seeking back to ancient hunting grounds

Written by

Onkyo find back to old beats, and launch a turntable.  The name is Onkyo CP-1050.

Nowadays Onkyo is associated with  other things than vinyl. Maybe AV segment, but also quite largely two-channel HiFi in budget and midrange, with digital audio as first service. But make no mistake - Onkyo`s first product was a pickup, which was produced already in 1946. And in the 70s and 80s Onkyo had their series of turntables.

We do not know if it is this that is why the all-new turntable features a rather classic design, in contrast to prevailing flatbread constructions especially a few leading modern manufacturers. But it is not only designed where Onkyo CP-1050 stand out from the field in the vinyl market. Direct drive was perhaps more prevalent Latin a few decades back, but it clearly has its advantages.

The chassis is built by thick, vibration damped MDF, and platter is made of aluminum. The S-shaped arm is equipped with detachable head shell. Engine allows for playback in both 33 and 45rpm, while height adjustable legs make it easy to level the player.

Onkyo CP-1050 is supplied Plug & Play with an MM pickup. Price in Norway is currently unknown to us.
