Yamaha RX-V377 - The first and smallest 2014 springchicken from Yamaha

There was once a time when it actually was linked a lot of excitement to the receiver news. Particularly when Dolby and DTS had fights about becomeing the market leader, and thus hopefully eventually reigned supreme on their Codecs. Or as SACD and DVD-Audio conducted similar battles.
It's getting a while ago, and in many cases is the news in later year's receiver collections a yawn. At least if you no longer allow yourelf to be dazzled by new fancy marketing tricks and expressions. And when it comes to Yamaha's first Autumn news - RX-V377, it may be tempting to think that there are hardly other than brackets that distinguish it from its predecessor, the RX-V375. Appearance and power specifications are unchanged, and so are most other aspects.
But there is still a novelty that might be interesting for some potencial buyers. Yamaha launches a new feature called Virtual CINEMA FRONT. This gives the possibility of placing the surround speakers in front. We do not have information available on how this should work, but it is tempting to assume that there is a HRTF-like DSP processing, somewhat similar to what Yamaha has used for years in soundbars. The experience fom these sounbars are twofold - on one hand they give a stunning effect, and on the other hand this is very far away from "the real thing". How 'Virtual CINEMA FRONT' work remains for us skeptics to hear. But what is undisputed is that it provides a kind of response to a real problem with the placement of surround speakers around in the many homes.
Among other news, we find the functions "Compressed audio enhancer" and "Extra Bass".
We don`t know price in Norway yet, but it will surprise if there is any appreciable distance from its predecessor, the RX-V375.
